I have to agree with Gatchamarie. It must be a very lonely place at the top and to be so young when chosen to become, in essence, a superhero. Many don't consider the death and distraction that Ken must be feeling, they just see the hope and courage such a figure brings without the cost.

I admit that I have read this ficlet after it appeared as a random story and I so wish I could have known about it before!  I want to thank you for writing and describing Ken's feelings in such a way that you've managed to touch my heart!  You've shown such depth in his emotions ... the same kind of feelings and emotions that I myself think Ken felt!  Great work and descriptive writing!
